Anyone know if there is an off-the-shelf product that would enable converting a clear lamp lens to that of a red? I wish to dispense with the clumsy flip-up filter on my lamping rig but have so far yet to come across anything on the internet.:(

Ideally it would be able to cope with intense heat which would permit coating the side nearest the bulb for maximum scratch resistance.;)

The alternative would be a 12V red replacement bulb, of no less power output, but I've never seen these offered in anything other than the 80 lumens Ledwave "Wildfinder" torch I use to pre-scan for rabbits before raising the rifle.:)

Cheers

If you can find a local (to you) supplier of stuff for theatre use, or a friendly techie from a theatre or drama group, try asking for a little red 'gel' ;) Gels are the coloured filters used on theatrical lamps and will withstand a good amount of heat and hard-ish wear if you don't need something rigid. I used a bit of red gel for ages on my Deben (scope-mounted)lamp for ages. I just cut a disc of it and taped it over the lamp aperture with some black insulating tape. Cost... pennies for a bit as small as you'll need.

Edit : I think the stuff I used was colour #106 Primary Red.
This is the sort of stuff I'm talking about... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-PACK-OF-COL...kparms=72%3A1683|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

Thanks Longstrider

Not quite what I'm looking to achieve but a good idea.

The more I think about this the more convinced I am that the best solution lies in sourcing a suitably powerful red LED. If they can do it to produce 80 lumens from a pair of lithium 123A batteries (6 volts), as per the this http://www.heinnie.com/product.asp?P_ID=788, then why not double that when hit with 12 volts.

Thank again for taking the time to reply.:You_Rock_

Cheers

yep ive used a surefire P6 for years
cant see rabbits on the other side of the moon but as im only shooting 12ftlb airgun i dont need to :D
lots of ideas on which colour over the years like the what cal argument but most filters effectivly cut the amount of light down massivly a large lamp puts out so a lower white light is often fine teh only filter i do use is IR ;) on occasion

you dont need a car barrery attatched to your belt either and the barbed wire freindly wires linking you to your gun :aargh4:

a LED head torch as well helps
