I don't own a gun but I'd expect a lot of people will be upset by this MP's knee jerk reaction following the tragic shootings in Horden County Durham

Initial reports suggest that the gunman Atherton had a history of attempted suicide & depression. Mr Morris would perhaps be better advised to be looking into whether there was a failure

to remove this blokes licence rather than interfere further with our freedoms (such as they are)

There's too many of these rent-a-gubs out to make sure they get there first to get publicity rather than thinking first & coming up with a sensible suggestion. Imagine a gamekeeper having to drive to the nearest police station to get his gun to start work... Stupid idea!!

Its just the usual headline grabbing botox used as an excuse to ladder climb his political party by getting his ugly mug on TV for a few brief seconds. Yawn...

There has definitely been a major failing if the Police were involved in the past matter where he spoke of suicide.

When dealing with folk it's nearly always that you would check their details on the PNC to check for such things as previous, warrants and if they hold a shotgun or firearms licence.

Even third party info on such a holder would be passed via intelligence to any interested dept and via a local daily briefing for each Police shift.

Although depression is not nessecary going to stop you getting a licence it would be further investigated at time of application.

Threatening suicide is a definate reason to have your guns removed until found to be fit to hold them again if at all.

from what i've heard on the news, the guns were in fact removed and only returned at a later date after a review by a senior office.

( you cannot legislate against a switch flipping )
