ooh aah hmmm, nice lookin blades m8.for the money they look unbeatable. let us know how they chop, balance etc. i wonder if the blades have been heat treated on the "sweet spot". by the way ,your a jammy bug*er ,,,,,mine cost double that and they were still cheaper than the stuff from H.I .
my sheath is different and the blades are set at a bit more of an angle. and the wee notch isnt enclosed. if i knew how to post a photo i would do so.
can someone tell me how?

You need to host the picture somewhere else first (ie Yoxio or a personal website)

Then you need the url of the image and, using the Img tags, link to it on the message board.

ie [.img.]Picture url [./img.] but you need to remove the "." in the tags to make it work

Kent.
I have already tried them and no complaints at all, I have started to sharpen the 8" and its reacting the same way that my Laplander does, they both have high carbon steel blades.
There were two diffetant types the one with the deeper blade continued to be deeper upto the bolster and the notch was open, as I chose the slimmer blade the notch is enclosed to add strength.
I was told that the price is the same as you would pay in Nepal one good place to look at the differant types is to go to www.thekhukurihouse.com
the Gurkha that sold me these has delt with this company and said their products are top quality and are very good to deal with

This thread made me dig out a Khukri I bought in Singapore in the late 60's (when I was just a lad!). It was for display then, but now I’ve dug it out from the attic it looks like it could be brought into use as a bushcraft tool. It’s a long time since I had any Ghurka contacts, so couple of questions please for anyone who uses one:

The wooden (rosewood?) handle seems a little small for my hand. Is this typical or likely to be a problem? Would a cord wrapping help?

Is there a trick to using one in the field? The forward weight of the blade gives a very different balance to my army golok.

How do I sharpen it (especially the inside of the curve) and is sharpness supposed to vary along the parts of the blade (as per Lofty Wiseman)?

Thanks,

Ted W

hey ted,
on the point about the handle feeling too small,it sounds to me that it may be a tourist model..the reason i say that is that i bought a couple myself and the handles were very short they also had the word india on them and a lot of punch marks as a design. do yours have the same marking? if so dont bother trying to sharpen it as its really too soft to hold a decent edge in my opinion. im not an expert on them but i now own a couple of genuine models and they are awsome. last weekend it easily out chopped my estwing axe.

Bill Martino is a class act of the highest order. Unfortunately he has been quite sick lately, with pancreatic cancer. There is some question as to the long term continuance of the company, so if you're interested in anything they have to offer, might want to strike while the iron is hot.
And watch out for the HIKV (Himalayan Imports Knife Virus). Everybody starts with one knife, but then you just can't stop...
