Anybody had any experience with these bags?

http://www.jjsupplies.com/full-size-plce-system---military-bergan---k-1536-p.asp

My old rucksack has now, after many years of reliable service, decided to expire so I am now in the market for a new bag. This time round I thought I would try a military type bag and this style with all the side pockets etc really appeals to me.

So any advice/alternatives etc would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

ps no affiliation with this shop - it was just the first link I found with a decent picture of the bergen!

It is a cheap copy of the issue PLCE bergen. For less than that price you could likely pick up a genuine bergen that will in all likelihood be much better quality.

Don't expect much comfort though even from the genuine one- the hip belt is poor, and is a bit of an afterthought- as they are supposed to sit on top of webbing.

For about £60, you would be better off with an ex dutch issue lowe alpine style saracen- which has a decent hip belt and back system, and should meet your brief. Avaliable from various places eg:

ah, actually, wheras there were loads of these about a few months back, they seem to have all sold out- sorry! On ebay for a bit more:

i had a ni patrol pack copy from kombat uk as my mate had an account with them, it was rubbish and after minor use all the stitching came apart, very poor quality and not to be relied on.
bought a highlander pro force to replace it and still have it now ,very good pack for a low price

Thanks for the advice guys - I guess I'll be giving them a body swerve then!

I'll do a bit more research but the dutch issue saracen looks absolutely ideal - If I can source it for a bit less than that ebay one then that would be a real bonus!

I agree, also don't forget you can get a second hand, Berghaus Vulcan on ebay for about £80 or a Crusader / Cyclops Roc for around £40. All good choices if you can't get a Saracen.

Thanks for all the replies chaps! I'll keep a look out for a second hand bergen or one of those dutch issue ones - they seem to be exactly what I am looking for!
