Knife for a friend

This is a boot knife I just finished for a friend. He is into horses and riding and wanted something thin to carry along when in the woods. Its made from a farrers file. The handle is made from purple heart and Brazialian Cherry that I dove tailed together and then pinned to the tang. It has a 4 3/4" handle and a 3 3/4" blade. What do ya all think?

The colours are a good contrast and the filework is well done. How did you achieve the finish on the blade, is it just forged from the farriers file, or have you treated it in some way.

Its as forged finnished then sanded clean and buffed. I am still working on the sheath so I'll update when thats done.

What a beautiful piece of work , I really like the dovetailed handle. I had been thinking about using 2 different woods for a handle but I hadnt thought of using my router ! :notworthy :wow1:

No its a hidden tang. There was a how to on BB that I thought
i would give a try, about a diferant way of doing the handle for a hidden tang knife, it worked out great on some other knifes I've done, so I modifyed it a bit and did the same on this one. The base of the tang gos right up to the lanyard hole, its good and strong.

I was shooting for a skean dbuh look, so Thanks! I gess it came out the way I wanted it to.

I realy like filework it can POP the looks of a knife. And its not that hard to do.

i realy like how it looks but i have a question,doesnt the filework mess up on the ease of use with a firesteel?

Thanks for all the kind words you guys :You_Rock_ . No I dont think it would be hard to use with a fire steel you would just have to use the tip half of the knife. But fire steels are not used in the states as much as in the UK. I know this knife will never be used with one. I am done with the sheath so here it is.

Man I make knives from files too, but you have given me something to strive for. That is an awesome piece of work. Sheath is pretty too. Very sgian dubh. Truly a great gift. Your friend will be proud to carry that one. :You_Rock_
