Kims game ?

Think of a walk you know well, home to school, or the shops, that kind of thing.

Memorise each item as one of the features on the walk........Cross the Road (button) pick up the button. Down the path (rubberband) that bends to the right.....

Well, it's how I do it :)

cheers,
Toddy

Cheers for the replies guys. Im into Derren Brown and i also have quite a few memory books so know about linking, pegging etc.

Im after the specific technique used for Kims game, ie, say 10 household items on a tray, view tray, then cover tray, remove something or nothing for that matter... whats missing.

The only thing i can think is to count the itmes every time

My problem; I would like to find a "solitaire" version. Anyone know of a way to play it that when alone?

Could you not use a deck of cards?
Shuffle pack , deal out say 12 cards , 2 mins to memorize them , turn them over , reshuffle the 12 cards remove one/two face down , turn the remaining pack back facing up then write down which two cards are missing?

Not exactly the same.

I guess could also be done with coloured pebbles or marbles in a bag.

This is a good book, it gives the monarchs as a story, then several other hard to remember facts like presidents and how to draw a map. Lets see what I can remember , I read the book several months ago and just skimmed through a list to ressurect the story (literally skimmed!)

egbert
ethelred
ethel wolf
ethelbald
Alfred the great
edward the elder
edred the something
Eadwig
edward the peacable
Edward the magnificent
red something - another ethelred?

Sven Forkbeard
Canute
Harold harefoot
Halfacanute
edward the confessor
Harold
William the conqorer
William II, rufus
Henry I
Stephen
Matilda
Henry II
Richard the Lionheart
King John
Henry III
I think the three edwards here?
Edward I
Edward II
Edward III
Im getting hazy now...Richard?
lets put more henrys in ...
Henry IV
Henry V
Henry VI
Edward IV?

......
Henry VIII
Edward IIII
Bloody Mary
Lady jane Grey
some kid that didnt live very long.

....nah thats all I can do!:D But hey thats after reading the book once! It turns all the names into characters - all birds in the story are a HENry, all willians are BILLY goats ect. It would take weeks to learn that by repetition the way school taught us to learn.

Hmm, good ideas, and with the cards one could get not only identity but also order (which ones misses with the small items in bag version).

I've played a version with nature pictures; what info is there to be gained from it. Location, season, time of day, directions, notable plants, features, etc. Most likely camp spot, etc... But that misses the memory aspects.

One day I'll start seriously programming on a "computer solitaire" version: throws up a few pictures, numbers, etc in a grid (variable size), and you then have to indicate which ones are where in each grid, scored based on proportion correct.
