I just put the cork chain over one of the two places where the handle is attached, then it hangs off the ground and it's out of the way. Easy solution.

But you're right, woodsmoke, the thermette looks much better! I think the lightness of the 2 pint kettle is nice to carry it, but in the end it's size makes it not being carried a lot after all... The 1 pint kk I never saw or used but I think it must be small enough to carry so the lightness is great (I often carried the 2.5 pint in my rucksack )...

Yes, after only two uses the inside of my firebox is coated with a thick layer of black carbon that doesn't want to come off either,

What about the wee scourers with impregnated soap ? cellulose thinners ? (nail varnish remover)
