I have a couple of fibreglass canoes, and me and a friend would really like to go up to scotland for a 4-5 days on a small kayaking trip.

Obviously, because they're fibreglass, we couldn't go on white water, but I'm just looking for some suggestions as to where is the best place to go to get a good few days kayaking in...somewhere near Ben Nevis would be great as we'd obviously have to give that a climb.

Thanks

yea i realy fancy doing a trip,i have would like to borrow a open canoe and do2 or 3 days any suggestions where to go for that?

I had a great few days kayaking on the River Wye last year. Brilliant canoe/camping facilities but avoid peak season. Check out www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/wye, good canoe hire and camping at Symonds Yat

What's the problem with fibreglass?
I learned to canoe on the River Awe, brilliant white water, and all our kayaks were fibreglass.
Hope you have a good trip,
Cheers,

Fibreglass breaks. They used to use them for whitewater but nowadays everybody uses plastic as they can take a fair amount of abuse.

I don't know what kind of "glass" boat is involved but no way would I take a fibreglass sea kayak where there there was any chance of banging against rocks or being dragged accross the ground.

To be pedantic there are some "fibre" kevlar and carbon fibre competition boats (to keep weight down) but these are specialised and expensive.

Nothing is wrong with fibreglass mate...ok it is maybe a bit less tough than plastic but if it's built right it's durable and repairable and very tough. More than tough enough for touring (just make sure you have a small repair kit incase you get a bad scrape or a crack).
