Well, in my spare time(not that I get much nowadays), I like to tinker a little with making knives as some people may know, so here is a special one. I had to get Tony's permission for this as you'll probably appreciate. Its a nice little WM1

I know that some of you guys like to see the back of these things as well so here's a little piccy.

p1010238yi7.jpg

And here it is finally in its sheath.

p1010240ag2.jpg

The scales are from Leopard wood (a form of lacewood) the fasteners are stainless Corby bolts, it has red vulcanised fibre liners (live long and prosper I hear you say).

The sheath is made from 3.5mm veg tanned leather with a 5 - 6mm filet in between, it has been designed so that it can be used ambidextrous, used on the captive belt loop, fitted to a dangler loop or used as a neck sheath. The colour is deep British Tan and it has been sealed and waxed.

Now I just hope the pictures come through:rolleyes:

Thank you gents. I do try (everyone says that I am very trying:D), but as far as knife making is concerned I bumble my way through to make something which is usable/functional.

It's the second WM1 I have made (I quite like them as opposed to my normal F1 type beast, they are rather cute). I think that they could be a really usable little bushcraft knife as they are strong pretty sharp and easily used by most anyone from a youngster of the 12 - 13 year group, upto adults.

Thanks Tom:)

I quite enjoyed making it. Just have to wait and see what the final recipient thinks of it:). I did not make it for me, although I will in time make one in maccasar ebony (my type of wood:D).

I may even make another foray into snakeskin inlays at some stage, not sure what on though.

Very nice mate, whoever commisioned this is going to be made up. Just the sort of knife a young bushcrafter dreams about or a little something special for the lady in your life. It ticks all the box's and would not look out of place on anyones belt. Well in, i look forward to seeing more of your work!;)

Thanks Jed and Stuart.

The knife was not a commission, I don't tend to make knives to commission, I tend to make knives for friends or family, normally they are done as a thank you to people, the best thing about this one is that the final recipient doesn't actually know who they are yet.

I on the other hand do:D.

I have ever only made a profit on one knife and that was the one that I made for Woody where I asked for £15 over the cost of materials. If you took into account the hours and the consumables I sold myself short by about £250.

You don't make knives to make profit, you make them because you like making them.:D

Thanks Graham, although I have hand carved them before this was done using an embossing plate, hence I needed Tony's permission to use the logo and the plate, which he gracefully gave (thanks again Tone:)).

I thought it came out rather well:).

So does the proud new owner :D :D

Seriously, this beautiful set arrived not quarter an hour ago and was a total surprise  It is just stunningly good and I'm absolutely delighted with it. :notworthy
The knife and the sheath are a wonderfully matched set, it feels like Christmas and my birthday came early :D

Leon, thank you, it is very much appreciated and I promise photos from this weekend at the Crannog.
Meanwhile I'm off for a play with my pressies :D

Mary

Leon,

did not want to cause offence or insinuate that you were a maker:eek: , although looking at the quality, it maybe something you want to think about. I agree with what you say about profit etc, i just thought that, as it is a smaller knife that you may have made it for a friend or relative that is either young, female or of smaller stature. By saying commision i meant that it was created for another and not for profit. My choice of words may not have been the greatest, s.o.r.r.y!

Again, a good job, well presented.

Jed no need to apologise, "it takes 2 to tango" as they say, I have in the past thought long and hard about making knives and I am a maker :), but normally I do leathercraft, but every now and again it's nice to make a knife :D.

Later this year I may make some for sale as I have a lot of Falkniven blanks in the house that a friend wants me to make for him (one or two he will sell for me), he also wants me to make a few limited, numbered, woodlore clones, obviously the problem is always time.

That will have to wait till after the Bushmoot though:D. Now though I am going to check to see if my latest (3rd) spoon has dried :D
