They are called higonokami and are friction folders. IME they take and hold a very sharp edge and usually have a laminated blade. They are legal to carry if you make sure the blade is shortened to 70mm as most are slightly longer.

In the woods if possible.
Looks like a good bit of kit but I wouldn't want anything with a steel handle for use with bare hands outdoors in cold weather.

I seem to remember that Tengu bought one of that style a year or two back.
Can't remember the verdict but I quite fancy one.

Sent via/advertising my carrier pigeon and takes a while to do a post.

yes, they are pretty handy but the blade is rather thick, I warn you.

You can get/make leather covers for the handle.

Great little EDCs! And UK legal if you get the one with the 3 inch blade! I highly recommend them!!!

I have two and have some reserves:
- has Tengu mentioned the blade is quite thick for its width
- the main axis need frequent tightening
- the opening lever is short, making it less secure against closure than something like the Svord peasant

I would gladly swap the two of them for a svord :) In France the douk douk is considered by many (inc. me) as the most convenient legal EDC.

I did wonder about the hinge and short lever being problems, one reason why I've resisted. I'll stick with the Svord and FGYT's excellent version...
