Just thought i would do a little introduction of myself. First of all i would like to say that most of my life has revolved around bushcraft and/or camping and hunting etc. I left school in 93 and became an electrical engineer, then went onto security installation for the rest of my career, cctv alarms etc. In 2010 i decided to make my own bushcraft knife in my workshop, and as anyone who makes knives will tell you, its very addictive ( and costly!!). Up until a couple of years ago my business took most of my time up and i only made knives for people i knew and the odd one from my self made website! Anyway as most of us have been affected by covid in one way or another i certainly was, to the point where i decided to part company with my business partner and persue my end game which was always to become a knife maker full time. I specialise in bushcraft type knives ( i used to own one of the first alan wood ray mears knives but when the prices started going up as ray got famous i sold it like a clown!!) and Japanese steels, ive always been obsessed with the process of real Japanese sword making and how the steel is obtained! So i make quite a lot of my knives from Japanese steels which i purchase directly from the hitachi company in Japan. My other favourite is obvs o1 tool steel, but there really is something about japanese steel that grips you, the edge retention is second to none! Any way so im here to discuss anything knife related really, By the way my names Gavin and my website ( a new proper one!) is www.bushcraft-knives.com should you wish to have a gander.
