I would as it happens buddy can you PM me the names? :biggthump I agree with you moonraker i was only kidding  anything that brings comfort and happiness is good in my book, at least they no longer burn heathens and witches

Actually PW it was 'you' pagans ( I mean in the broad sense here) who were responsible for Hell well before the church took on the tradition  From Asatru/ Norse you have Asgard for the worthy dead and Niflheim for those that did not live a life of glory, ruled over by the Goddess Hel, the daughter of Loki, hence the word 'Hell' (the same root anyhow) :-)

The root of the word 'hell' actually stems from the Indo-European 'hel' meaning 'to cover or conceal' (so hell is a 'concealed place'). Interestingly when we say "not until Hell freezes over" should watch it because the Old Norse 'Hel' was a very cold place, not hot and fiery :-)

Personally I think everyone has the right to follow whichever path they choose, religious or not and we should show respect and tolerance for those beliefs.

But ironically the Norse word "Hell" just means luck. Also, there is a station near Trondheim in Norway called Hell - gets nearly as many signs nicked as F### in Austria
I loved the presentation, I certainly didn't agree with most of what was said but I found it all quite harmless - and I was only watching it for the pics, which were stunning. I'm an extremely cynical atheist

moonraker if there is such a thing as immortality i hope you find it buddy :rolmao: :rolmao:

Andy' it will be a pleasure to share my immortality with you. At least we can discuss bushcraft techniques; no need for a firesteel where we are going though

PW, me too  Actually my take on the subject is the same as Woody Alans:

"I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve it through not dying"
:-)

Second Level of Hell
You have come to a place mute of all light, where the wind bellows as the sea does in a tempest. This is the realm where the lustful spend eternity. Here, sinners are blown around endlessly by the unforgiving winds of unquenchable desire as punishment for their transgressions. The infernal hurricane that never rests hurtles the spirits onward in its rapine, whirling them round, and smiting, it molests them. You have betrayed reason at the behest of your appetite for pleasure, and so here you are doomed to remain. Cleopatra and Helen of Troy are two that share in your fate.

So it will be a bit windy. I am sure I can still get a fire lit and the good news is Cleopatra and Helen of Troy will be there to compete for my affections.

Personally I believe there is a God, it may not be the christian version or the Muslim one but I beleive their is a creation spirit to which all religions answer.

God, great spirit or creator is one, only man corrupts the message and only man in his greed twists the message to serve his own end.

Personally I like to view nature based religions as being 'closest to the truth' simply because I believe people were less corrupted but the money lust ect and world over all these religions all seem to be very similar.

More over we will never know if there is a God until it is to late but I personally am happy to know that I can look myself in the eye every morning and know I have been the best person I can be.

Just a thought.

I agree but why god :?: and not goddess :?: i view the creator / nature as feminine, if the almighty had always been viewed as a woman then what? we may be living in a better more nurturing world :?: (serious answers please! no remarks about driving or toilet seats please :rolmao: )

OK, reminder to all to keep the thread on track here - this thread began with a link to pretty pictures with slogans attached and that was all. It's not about man corrupting the message or hell or who is destined to smell the brimstone and who isn't. If you are interested in a real theological discussion then fire up Google and you'll find loads of forums that will be happy to discuss your ideas.

Very nice scenic pictures.

But I would ask Adi what is this thread about if not God. The message on the film is supposedly what he would say to us if he could. I'm old but I dont think I am missing the point or am I.

Gary, I always seem to be picking up your lines of thought and I agree with you, as long as a man or women can look themselve in the mirror and know they have done the best they can surely God can ask no more.

Paganwolf, the gender of the supreme spirit is irrelevant its the message they bring which counts. If our society was matriachal then maybe it would be as you say but remember Queen Victoria and Maggie Thatcher were both ladies and they were tough than most men in similar roles.

One last thought, I am 60 years old and the nearer I get to the grave the more I think about god. Those of you who have time, use it well.

Hmmm point taken, gender shouldnt be an issue, just by beliefs showing through, i like the term spirit as its a sexless term, and your right about maggie  my respect goes out to you whitebuffalo, I am of the same opinion as you also tatanka, this is a thread a long line of comments stringing from one common statement, about God, I for one am very interested in peoples beliefs and the paths they follow, can we just see where this goes and if it gets to iffy, perhaps you can lock it down Adi :?:

Religion, in whatever form, is a topic that can cause a LOT of problems in forums.

Just try to remember everyone has different views and we all need to respect those views, even if we don't agree with them. The thread is a good thread but everyone needs to be a little restrained in where they take it. Sticking to the topic of the original posting is probably the best bet ...

The powerpoint slide show that the link opens has some stunning images which made the looking worthwhile. The words, however, are pure "Hallmark" sentamentality that you might find in any birthday card. Certainly, I don't think that any major monotheistic faith would endorse or recognise those words.

If you owned a Toyota and wanted to maintain it as best you could, you would not buy a workshop manual from Tata and use that as your reference would you?

And yet I suspect that we tend to try and draw our knowledge for life [and beyond] from multiple man derived sources, each cobbling together their own soup of comfortable pluralist theologies.

I have to think that referring to the maker's manual [alone] is the most prudent choice to be made.

I make no comment on religion as I've always found it causes arguments...but....

Always make me chuckle when I hear people quote from scriptures only to follow it with the words "I think what God meant to say was....." personally I've never been that confident! lol :rolmao:
