Interesting idea.
I would think that it would have a shorter useful stroke and be less effective than a bow saw doing a job that was matched to the one tooth pattern it had. On the other hand it could make for a more flexible tool, where you would usually opt for something else.
Worth a go for where you wouldn't use your folder?
