Just a quick informal poll to see how many of you are connecting to BCUK using a DSL/ADSL or faster connection and how many are still connecting with a dial-up modem.

Another one for dial-up.

I cant justify the cost of Broadband and even if I could I`d probably spend far too much time on it downloading far too much rubbish - just cos I could !

I used to play on-line games when dial-up was the only option. Said goodbye to many an evening and weekend, it got a bit addictive... :nono:

Haven't clocked the one at home, but this is the one at work.

Communications 1.6 megabits per second
Storage 198 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 5.2 seconds
Subjective rating Great

I should mention that I work in Opto-electronics and tele-communications, the home line is pretty quick too :-D

Nice!!!! :o):

ADSL at about 596kbps.

The missus works from home so I persuaded her that she 'needed' boradband. Heh-heh. Put a wireless router in too so I can use my laptop anywhere in the house. Means I can relax in my fave armchair with the radio on and peruse the BCUK forum. Bliss...

Ahhh ... wireless is an essential if you have broadband! Just make sure you keep on top of the security or you'll end up giving free internet to your neighbours!!!!

Cheers ADI, it's quite nifty when its quiet at work (rather a lot at the moment I am working nights :o): ).

I am like Mikey P and have a wireless system at home, I am using a Linksys WAG54G, which was soooo easy to set up it was a joke :-D .

It had to be done as I was getting quite irrate with the dial up :banghead: :***: :aargh4:

All better now though :biggthump

Dial... what???? :P Hmmmm havent been on that almost 3 years now, in fact I thought it was just a cruel myth designed to frighten children with ;)

Has anyone tried going around the streets with a laptop and WIFI card or Pocket PC with WIFI? Just stop once you've found a non-secure network. Great way of occupying yourself during the pauses :-D

[You'll need some sort of scanning program though : Net stumbler]

P.S: 768kbps ADSL. Haven't had dial-up for ages, I've had ISDN (128kb) for at least 4 years now, then ADSL as soon as it was available here. First 256, then they raised it to 300, then doubled it (well more than doubled it), still at the same price, the other companies were getting too competitive :-D (That's Swisscom, it's the best over here, much more stable the sunrise etc.)

Still on dail-up, its all you can get out here in the sticks :?:

But BT are putting ADSL in the local ex-change in December :super: :o):
