Including rope in your kit?

It could lead you into trouble. You have a rope so you have more confidence which can lead you into trouble you don't know how to get out of. Even assuming you even know how to use the rope in the first place. I'm a big believer in progression and learning your way through experience. If you can't be confident in a particular terrain then I think a rope isn't the answer. Also if you don't know the way you are going is in your ability is it the right way to go? Especially if you've got an overnight or multi day kit on your back.

I don't carry any climbing rope(though i do have a quite a lot of it)but always carry that blue B & Q thick stuff, but only about 20ft of it, only needed it once, in a "life threatening" situation, & it worked its magic.

The only time I bother to carry rope is when I'm going climbing, it takes up a fair bit of space and I've never needed it otherwise.
