In search of the perfect plate....

So, I'm fed up. Fed up of the plastic plates we have for family camping. They're flat with barely any rim, as expected from a plate. However, I find a bowl so much easier to eat from with the deep rim meaning you can often just use a fork for shovelling on your food.

So to compromise between a bowl/plate I would like to get a new set of plates with a deeper rim and wondered if anyone knows of one as my attempts at searching so far have not produced anything that fits.

The IKEA smaska plates are the right shape but sadly just too small. Ideal for my kids but not for me!

Kupilka plate, it sits on your lap perfectly and holds a decent amount and has the rim you're seeking. Only downside is it is expensive but I don't regret buying mine

Seriously though I have to agree with Mesquite, those kupilka plates and bowls are rather good. John Fenna and Steve (Mesquite) both had them at the Moot last year and they really are the bizz for camping.

MSR do a nice stainless bowl with one handle. Great piece of kit and can be cooked in too.

I'm probably a bit of a philistine but I don't use a plate....I tend to eat everything out of my little primus frying pan, like a true bushcraft oik lol I've also become very adept at creating meals that roll easily into those wrap bread things....tortillas? I can do breakfast, lunch and diner all rolled on my lap and stuffed down like its the last food I'll ever have

and more importantly are NOT thin Metal which you forget as you load up a massive pile of boiling Food and slump back into your chair only to jump up again and chuck the food every where as soon as the now hot plate rests on your lap

If i'm car camping i'll just throw in a plate or bowl i use at home, if i'm hiking and carrying then i'm not going to be cooking steaks so i'll either eat from the bag i've cooked/boiled the food in, or if it's something like pasta i'll eat straight from the pot.

Get someone to turn you a nice wooden plate/bowl to your spec - real men do not use plastic!

If youre buying a few, for family, friends and such, I'd second the white enamel plates with the blue rims, cheap as chips from surplus stores.
