I got a Freeplay Indigo wind up a few years back. It wasn't cheap, and I found it quite disappointing. Not recommended to be honest.

Unfortunaley they rarely live up to the hype, wind up are best kept as something in the boot of the car for emergencies.
true enough on most counts, but i found wind ups excellent for night time feeds/changes with my babies, as they give a nice low light so as not to distract the baby -who with a brighter light may think it is play time!!!- but bright enough for mum/dad to see.i found that if i gave it a good wind before i go to sleep, there is ample power to see through night feeds and the fact the light dims over time, this was excellent to settle my babies back to sleep. :o

Well that solves that little problem and saves writing another lantern thread. :D

Alpkit Bulb 2 it is then.

Needed a lantern I can find in the dark and that gives out a good amount of light whilst giving good battery life with a widely used cell. Brilliant. No pun intended. :D

When our youngest was still on bottles and feeding in night I bought a dozen led tea light candles from the quid shop. They flicker like a real candle and will last for 3 days.
They were great as a night light. We strung up a few in the tent, switched them off in the day and these lasted all week.
We then used them at home afterwards. They are fantastic.

Another vote for the Alpkit - excellent value for money - but whoever thought having a flashing LED was a good idea when you're trying to sleep in an otherwise dark tent should be taken out and publically flogged! A bit of gaffer tape deals with it though :-))

I had, briefly, one of the Black Diamond ones - seriously impressive, while it worked. Which wasn't long. It started turning itself off for no reason - as did a pal's one. It got returned.

I recently purchased a wind up LED lamp, i've been testing it just at home so far but it seems to give off decent amount of light just on the lower setting (you should be able to use it for 40 hours on this setting). I havn't had a chance to take it out of the city yet and test it but i'm very keen to see how it goes when it gets really dark.
