If you go down to the woods today.........

  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
You are in for a big suprise!, Well, it wasn't quite the woods, but the Wildfowl and wetland Trust site at Castle Espie in County Down. I was taken out for a "Father's Day" treat today by my wife and daughter to Castle Espie, a place I had never been to before, and who should we bump into but Anthonio Akkerman and his better half Jessica who were doing demos at the centre there. After a bit of a chat, Anthonio gave me a chance to have a go with the bow drill, something I'd only ever succeded with once before at the Woodlore Fundemental bushcraft course which was over 2 years ago. (I much prefer traditional flint and steel as a fire lighting method) With Anthonio offering 1 to 1 tutering and refinement of my poor technique I soon had the bow drill set bedded in and then went to work on getting an ember. Just before I got my own ember, something terrible happened! My wife was with Jessica who was showing her the Bow drill set and had persuaded her to have a go (My wife "Dosen't do Bushcraft" and will only go camping with tents and air beds and all the comforts of modern camping) Before I had my ember going, up she waltzs with a billowing ember that she had produced in about 2 minutes flat (with a little help from Jessica on the bowing front) and then spent the rest of the afternoon rubbing my nose in it about the big deal I made about getting an ember with the bow drill.

Does anyone know a natural remedy for "Big Headed Wife Syndrome"
I'll never live it down :(

To Anthonio and Jessica. It was really nice to meet you again and I'd like to say a big thanks for the the bow drill help. It made our day out a really memorable one.
