ID needed for tree with brown fruits?

Hi,

We saw this tree whilst walking on a road near Thirsk, North Yorkshire. I've not seen anything like it before and first thought it could be walnut but the fruit is the wrong colour! They look like kiwi fruits except they are bobbly all over.

There's one of these in a park near me, but I have no idea at all what it is. It's been bugging me for years...excited to find out

I'd concur.

Almost certainly a Hippocastanaceae, Hummmmm but which one ? could it be Aesculus glabra.

Agreed. The Indians have less spikey nuts than the S.E. Europeans........Browner too
