I've decided to make a rocket stove from old tin cans. What I can't seem to find is a "one gallon" tin. The bigger industrial ones?! Where would I get one?

Do you mean our gallon or the USA one ? The latter is 0.8 of ours.

Large olive oil tins are 5litres, that's a little bigger than a gallon; available from Tesco24hrs stores, etc., Indian and Chinese takeaways and restaurants throw them away more quickly than we'd use that amount of oil though.

Maybe try a local decorating shop, failing that a car paint supply store. They will likely have empty tins for sale suitable for a stove. I got smaller tins from the latter in a town that thinks fibre optic is a transformer so they should be available in any half decent store aforementioned. Food tins will likely be lighter though, paint tins can be quite thick; for a stove i wouldn't see this as a negative...
