I just bought a poncho, but then had an after thought.

I bought a Helikon weatherproof poncho today, mainly for use when I'm fishing in the rain. But naturally in the back of my mind I was thinking it would be good for camping in the rain too as it can be used as a poncho or a tarp. But then I had an after thought: do 'ripstop' polyester and campfires mix?

I like to be warmed by a fire, and kept dry by a poncho. But I don't fancy doing the whole Guy Fawkes thing. Google results so far vary between 'yes you'll be fine' to 'no, you will die'.

Any ideas? I suppose I could just stick a match under it and see what happens ...

Plastic melts, don't roll in the fire ;)

In case of sparks landing inconsiderately, spinnaker* tape :D

I've the same poncho and my advice would be keep it away from the fire, as you would any tarp.
