Hi,

At the recent Bushcraft UK meet up, we found an abandoned are head. It looked like someone was trying to remove the broken haft using a campfire. One of the other members there said he'd seen it at the camp about a month ago. So it's clearly been forgotten about.

So with the help of Monkey Boy, I'm going to restore the head and remount it. It's got a stamp of the weight being '4 1/2 LBS' and another stamp with Initials 'HW'. I've so managed to recover the wedge pin, which I could use again.

The head has been washed in white vinegar, and scrubbed. But I'll do further work, once it's been annealed and tempered.

Just a guess...
HW might stand for Helko Werk axe made in Germany,
This could be wrong as it's stamped in lbs unless it was made for export?

I would test the edge before heat treating the head as it might be ok
Watching with interest :)

Thanks for that, it does look similar to the Expedition. Though there is no crest on the head, but other than that it matches the axe.
