@Jared Yeah. I need to follow up on The Bridge, especially after your recommendation.

What is Deadpool’s superpower?
One of the issues I have with superpowers is that they need a vulnerability or a nemesis otherwise there’s is no story. Once Popeye had swallowed his spinach it was game over for the particular story baddy - usually Bluto. Same with He-man. Once his trousers were off it was a short burst of violence and Skeletor’s plans for world domination were shattered.

This has been known since the beginning of story telling. The Gods of Asgard would be all powerful and boring without a plot device called Loki. He was Superman’s kryptonite, Batman’s Joker.
Deadpool kind of heals himself. His issue is that he has terminal cancer that this superpower is keeping at bay. He can also take a while to heal at times. Like when his legs were cut off. He was seen with baby legs.

Robert Downey Jr. He was terrible as Sherlock Holmes IMHO of course.
Aah, those! At first I did not like `em but then on second/third watch started to enjoy. A Sherlock meets Tarantino sort of thing. Guy Ritchie was the director I believe.

Funny how if you don't board or miss some trains, you just get left behind without really being all that bothered..

I have never watched Deadpool...
Transformers I think I saw the first one... that was that.
John Wick, never seen them
Fast and Furious - might have seen the first one, that was it.
Oceans 11,12,13,19,20005,2392314-923r490234213 - Again think I saw the first one, that was that..

Avengers, and all them lot nope...

I actually think there are too many movies and things around these days... anyone with a phone can make a movie (sort of..), whereas historically it was a lot more involved and specialised.
I was even reminiscing the other day about how it was fun to go into a blockbuster on a friday evening and rent a few movies for the weekend, a form of patience and pleasure that somewhat doesn't exist anymore.

I think that also helped with the idea of going to the cinema, its rare there is anything on in the cinema full stop, and even if there is something mildly intriguing, whether or not I can be bothered to go is the next step - I'd rather either sit at home or go out for a hike..

My visits to the cinema were almost entirely limited to holidays, particularly our Christmas break in Keswick. I don’t think we’ve done that for the last four years. Pity - we used to get a combined meal and cinema ticket at Zephs in Ambleside.

I particularly dislike cinema remakes. How could anyone remake The Italian Job. The whole ethos of the “Self Preservation Society” went with a change of prime minister (and the phase out of the mini.)

The impact of Ocean’s 11 came from the Rat Pack.

Once you have a superhero then you have to have a counterpoint super villain and it all becomes overworked. Too many films, too few ideas.

(I do go to a cinema for some live streamed stuff.)

Have Gladiator II release next month... another movie no one really asked for.

If have Netflix The Penguin is good. The story of the rise of The Penguin in the criminal underworld. More mob crime drama than supervillian story.

@Paul_B You are not doing a great job of selling me this thing! :lmao:
There was a scene where he was healing and he was sitting on a couch next to an old. blind woman talking to others standing opposite him. He's wearing just a tshirt and does a basic instinct nstyle leg cross to the disgust of the people oppoosite him. I think there are cross references to other superhero films in the same universe and also to other films not in the genre.

I must admit to likiing films that reference other films and it is well known. That way you play a kind of spot the film reference game for added interest.

Deadpool is a marmite film.

I had high hopes for John Wick, after reading a lot of reviews, when it finally showed in one of our tv-channels. But I don´t know....all that shooting and violence and blood,...just too much. And the choreographed fighting was was too over the top, not even remotley resembling reality. One cold say it was a cartoon/video game made in movie format. Obviously directed to a younger audience than me.

Ghostbusters the all female cast remake was a dead hour I regret watching (3 times!!).

I kinda liked the next gen version of ghostbusters with some of the original cast making a cameo. I think there will be another one of them. They are about the grrandkids of one of the original ghostbusters.

Was the body count even half that of Shwartzenager's commando film?

There was a film called “Shootemup” which took the p out of violent gun warfare films. Our hero would have needed an ammunition supply convoy half a mile long. His guns never overheated or jammed.
Just as the producer intended, I found myself laughing at the ridiculousness of the scenario.
Obviously, there was no consideration that he was killing the equivalent of a crowded football stadium and in this case it was totally bloodless, while many appeared to be killed, non were mutilated, non screamed or cried out. Like vast numbers of similar entertainments, it was a totally sterile homicide.

Commando the people shot often got the reaction timing wrong. Many of the baddies got shot before Arnie had even pointed the gun at them. Either that or they reacted late. I even think one explosion had the baddies fly into the air before the explosion had started.

While we're all being catharic and admitting to not liking popular films.
My wife loves those Lord Of The Rings films.
I've sat and watched the lot and back to back it seems like about ten years of wasted time.
Plus I can't stand the elves, all high and mightly elder tosspots.
Prepared to make an exception for Cate Blanchett though.

Whatever rucksacks they were carrying in Where Eagles Dare, I want one. Another film where ammunition and explosive supply wasn’t a problem.

Apparently in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid they were only allowed six shots per gun before reloading until the last scene when there were no limits.

Plus I can't stand the elves, all high and mightly elder tosspots.
Have you read any of Terry Pratchet’s accounts of elves? Very nasty.
LoR - I quite liked Liv Tyler at the time.
