I am suspicious of this sleeping bag

Found a sleeping bag at the car boot

its a Freedomtrail by Slumbalux (Geneva)

filled with some stuff called dupont qualiofil 7

the thermal range is High 2 degrees, Reccomended -12 degrees and low -18 degrees.

I dont for one minute believe this....its a skimpy thing.

It comes with a compression sack, but its missing its strapping. has any of you about 2 metres 1 inch red webbing? I will pay or I have stuff you can swap.

well qualofil is a decent synthetic filling i assume the 7 means that it's got 7 tubes in each fibre (i've got a qualofil 5 bag somewhere, it had 5 per fibre)
all the same, how bad can it be for £2?

I've got a Slumbalux "Icelander" extra large mummy bag, rated to -15, great bit of kit, I'll have to check its filling.

Any idea how old it is? Could be it had a lot more loft when it was new. A good wash would probably help restore it a bit.

All depends on how thick the insulation is. The insulation that goes over you that is. If it's anything below 2 inches, I'd say not.

I've got a bag like that. I am trying to think how to phrase this... It does go that cold but the first hour is always unpleasant. I would love to known how they work out the ratings on things like this. Mine tends to go used as a lightweight summer bag, but if I think it is going to be cold, I bring the British Army Bag instead.

You mean your down one thats so small it adds a whole new meaning to the term, `mummy` bag?

Ive one of those too. Its got liners to keep it clean.

I would take that if it was very cold. But this one is rather fetching and its extra long, so my boots can be placed at the feet. (Ill make a bag for them) it is light, packs small (with a lot of cursing but I assume that is because of the mising strapping) and Im sure will do for all but the extreems of tempreture.

Whatever it is, its a great find for £2 (I dread to think what a product like that would be new)

Every time you crush the sleeping bag into its compression sack you reduce the fillings ability to loft. Thus your reducing its insulation value. Try not to use a compression bag unless its absolutely vital. If your going to wash your bag make sure you follow the instructions very carefully.
