I'm in the process of making a canoe, from the plans I downloaded from here, the 14' plywood one, not the folder.

I wasn't going to name it but a couple of people said I should, so I'm toying with "das boot" because it may end up being a submarine or "The Black Pearl" because that will probably be the colour.

My 4mm ply boat was known as Honey from her colour when first varnished, then was renamed "the Black Joke" after years of wear and tear and repair m,eant she needed painting to look good. I painted her black and had a skull and crossbones flag as a sail.... she still floats but now has dry rot under the gunwale!
My plastic boats have never been named.

I'm considering buying one but i'm finding it hard to get decent info on them to decide what i want, a canoe is unlike a car, turns out you can't test drive them, everyone has begineers courses they can put you on for a fee, funny that

get yourself over to Song of the Paddle loads of great advice, tipa and a far few familar friendly faces

I'd love a canoe but I have nowhere to store one, and in Manchester nowhere to paddle one :(

There are tons of places mate I go out nearly every week and paddle all sorts ....the river mersey and I have an on going grudge. There are some really nice canals. if you want to get out for a paddle drop me a PM and we can sort something out.

Get in touch with Stu at apache canoes. he drives all over the country and will do his best to sort out a test paddle for you. once you have been in an apache its hard to resist. I got my first canoe about 6 months ago and I am already looking at another. I got the 15 foot from stu and I am now looking at the 16.

No financial connections with stu just paddling buddies and that came about from the great customer service and looking for somebody to paddle with.

On the side try over on song of the paddle website for more info.

Cheers greg
