Hi folks. I'm haven't made a forum post since around 2009, but I have singular intentions so I will adhere to protocol.
I am Francis and I live about 30 minute drive from Crater Lake NP in Oregon. 5 minutes by snowmobile.
I have an 80-100 mile drive to the nearest grocery store, one w9ay.
I spend a lot of time in the backcountry here; hunting, foraging, snares, fishing. Along with a coworkwr/dear friend, I act as first responder for car accidents for a ~40 mile radius. It simply takes too long for anyone else to get here.
In the winter I do search and rescue on snowmobile. People overestimate their ability and lose track of time when riding, and suddenly it's pitch black and blizzard.
I'd say my favorite hobby in the woods is the deliberate avoidance of population densities.
I make a lot of diy stuff and often have a project to fill my time. Attached images are of my current project, rattlesnake skin grips. From what I understand, if I show pictures of firearms I'll get thrown in the stockades by an Earl or Viscount or something, so I'll just show the grips themselves. Still have detail work to do on them.
The reason I made this account is I want to buy a bunch of John Fenna's books/material. I was looking for diy bushcraft stuff and I consistently was brought to this website via John Fenna posts. I ended up making my own pattern for a shelter/poncho, but I'll never turn down more knowledge.
If yall have any questions then fire away.
I hopped freight trains for four years all over north America, got stuck in Cambodian jail for a month, sailed from Hawaii to Jamaica.
