How to unhaft an axe.

The old timers round these here parts used to shoot the wood out the helve. But because we are not allowed real bullets they used up a whole tin of .22 air gun pellets over a wet weekend.

I'm wondering if it would have been quicker or better using .177?

I am going to soak the head in mollasses now, before I fix it in place.

sorry if i ask a dumb question..: how do you soak a piece of metal?! and what is the purpose of soaking an axe head in molasses?!

You put the piece of metal in a plastic tub and pour molasses over it.

The molasses removes rust by a process known as chelation.

I think its just a process similar to reverse oxidisation (reduction). It won't prevent it rusting again

so i still have to oil my tools (as usual)afterwards... . molasses are a bit hard to come by in my neck of the world but i'll keep that trick in mind for future uses!

Sorry if this sounds rude but that just sounds like a pointless, pellet wasting, possibly dangerous, waste of time way to do something....if it was a joke post then sorry, I missed the joke!
