Ok I am not going to be carving any spoons out of it, but generally speaking how hazardous is the wood and the bark generally.
Yesterday I found myself a nice straight piece which I was using as an impromptu thumbstick, with the intention of taking it home and finishing the job properly.
Would there be any danger from merely handling the thing and then eating afterwards or would a coat of varnish be sufficient to seal in any risk?
