Homemade Firesteel

Hi Guys,

Tried posting earlier, but I think my image was too big.
anyway...

Made these today out of fallen birch.

what oil do you recommend finishing them off with?

Nice job but I wish people would say a firesteel HANDLE. I keep opening these type threads hoping someone is describing how to make the actual steel

True. Ferrocerium rod actually but lets not hijack the thread.

Ditto the above except I'm expecting to see a steel striker for belting out sparks with a flint.

Expecting folk to be able to make ferrocerium in their shed/garage/kitchen/allotment/bedroom etc is a bit much Kev

boiled linseed would look good on them.
Brings up the grain on a Spark Stick wooden handle a treat...

Out of curiosity... one of the first pyrophoric alloys is 70% Cerium and 30% Iron.

100g of Cerium is ~£60...

Might just stick to buying ferro-cerium rods.
