As the swallows and martins are gathering into post breeding flocks they are a prime target for raptors. There's been a juvenile hobby kicking around our house and the hirundines really kick off when its about, I've had some cracking views of it thanks to looking up when I hear their warning calls.

On a coastal nature reserve near me a few years ago, I was walking along in clouds of common red darter dragonflies. Literally thousands of them, continually taking off from in front of me as I walked along. When I stopped, I then noticed that emperor dragonflies were flying into the clouds of darters, and picking off individuals. As I got to the car park, a load of finches suddenly panicked and dived away into cover, and a hobby came out of a dive about 2 feet above my head and took one of the emperor dragonflies. Absolutely amazing.

Wonderful birds.
