What a fantastic idea!

i first thought it was the rather less impressive jacket come rucksack cover, this though is in another story! :headbang:

it seems to pick up on all the things the German army sleeping bag didn't do well!

(and text)The Image above shows how the Bivanorak can be used as a sleeping bag cover. The Bivanorak allows you to stick out your arms when needed.

Sharpshooter did a detailed and well illustrated of the 'Bivanorak' over on Outdoors Magazine last year. Check it out here:

There is another recent review but in French only here:

On a testé - Bivanorak Hilleberg

Basically it says as a bivy bag it is pretty good and water tight even in heavy rain. However after a while the breathability was reduced and condensation made the sleeping bag wet. As a poncho it was not so good as it lacked decent breathability producing moisture inside and the wind tended to make it billow! Also the hood lacks adjustment and tended to fall over his eyes (others said it is possible to adjust a bit but not fully). The pack will need to be quite small for it to fit right over it too.

Looking at it it seems more suited to static use around camp. Being able to have your arms outside is pretty cool (but would reduce thermal quality in cold conditions) and being able to walk around with it pulled up around waist seems a good idea. But perhaps it is trying to do too much and does not offer the option of using a poncho as a tarp for instance.

For info they are 240 cm long and weigh 0.6kg. Getting one in the UK could be an issue. Only prices (not stocked anymore) I saw was around £122. That would buy a very decent goretex bivy bag, a lightweight waterproof and tarp etc.
