Hi folks, I'm doing some fettling today.
I'm going to make a hiking trolley/trailer/ wheelie pulk type thing. I've got most of the stuff here apart from some fittings, 2hichnill be going out to get after this cuppa.
Heres the plan so far.

Since I had my thyroid removed 4 years ago, I struggle with carrying kit over distance, it's like my stamina is gone.
Hoping this can help while I increase my ability over time.

Would one wheel not be better? I'm just thinking about encountering obstacles.

It would, but I don't have the materials to make a single wheel. Going to try this one first, then save up and buy a mono walker eventually. This is a trial sort of thing, if I get on with the idea, I'll upgrade

I picked up an old Golf caddy with drop down wheels - have been thinking of doing the same thing so will follow your project with interest.

Ah that's where I'm stuck, only have a smart phone. Just noticed I can upload at the bottom of my post if I use tapatalk instead of the website

Something like a Chinese wheelbarrow maybe? Problem is with towing trolleys over uneven terrain is how easily they tip over when you encounter a bump. I did attach wheels to my home made packframe for a while, but it wasn't really very convenient.

If you didn't have a frame already I would have suggested Plumbers PVC pipe ( the wider stuff ) - easy to cut , multitude of angled fittings and T-Pieces , and just glues together. Light weight also.

EDIT - Can also be 'formed' with a heat gun to create bends and adaptions.

How are you going to link the frame to yourself? I was thinking a webbing set up.

I have a lomo dry sack 80l with detachable straps and waist belt. Was thinking of using those straps, and using the bag on the trolley. Off to get some fittings then I'll be cracking on with the project

Not sure if of any interest but burly trailers do something close to this for bikes called travaloy I think. Might be useful for some design ideas, or not. It is for cycling but a good cycle trailer brand so their construction and design will be solid.

I made a monowheel trailer from an old ali stepladder, when I had a back problem. I fixed it to an old waist belt to pull it. there were a couple of stability issues, but a bit of fettling cured them.
I also made a two wheel trolley for more heavyweight camps, using some dexion and ply. Good for pulling if you are only going a mile or two from the car.51991449_794837674208557_5369179186990678016_n.jpg

Burley Travoy is an excellent trailer but it has a single point to hitch/pull it from,
its very robustly made, folds up small and can carry a good amount.
This single point hitch is a bit of a problem on rough terrain if you are using it as a hand cart as it can be a bit of a pig to keep from rolling over.
That being said I have hand pulled mine by hand over several KM on rough terrain with 25+ kg, on the up hill it helps but on the down hill it easily cuts the effort in half and on the flat it takes no effort.
I would say if you wanted to drag for a long way you would want some kind of belt with a hitch to free up your hands.
The double wheel with double handle/boom construction where you have two handles to pull on is even better in my limited experience especially on longer trails with a decent-ish surface.

Here we have belts made for ahkio towing with two attachment points. Might work with a wheeled ahkio too.

it just looks like dropping the Cg as low as reasonable ground clearance allows might be a good idea.
