Hello everyone, my name is Joe and I'm from the Midlands, UK. (About 250 meters from where West becomes East, so I will just stick with Midlands).

I've unfortunately been unemployed for the last couple of months and have been going stir crazy with the limitations that imposes on your life so am itching to get out and about. I spend many a moment daydreaming about being out in the wilds while reading a review of a sleeping bag or watching a video comparing one axe to another.

Luckily I now have a new job on the horizon and intend to start filling my adventuring pack any day, I already have a shopping list that is as long as my arm (and getting longer every day!) I stumbled upon this forum during my research and hope to become an active member while I get my kit together and maybe attend some meetups once I have a bit more experience.

I'm going to start off with a tent and a meths based cooking system and try out the other sleeping/cooking methods and other ideas as I go and get chance, start with what I know and see what else fits. I'm looking to plan a weekend with a night at 2 different sites with a good hike between as a start. This will probably be alone at first, I don't have any friends this way inclined and my girlfriend would prefer a hotel. Don't get me wrong, I believe the solo side has a lot of charms and I look forward to it, but it would also be nice to have a partner in crime, or two, in the future.

Anyway, enough prattling on from me. Thanks for your time :-)

Welcome aboard Joe :)

Get stuck in mate, we're a friendly bunch; plenty of use full info and experienced bushcrafters on here.

Welcome from northern California, Joe! I hope your employment situation improves. The good news about walking outdoors is that you don't need a lot of equipment and that fresh air and sunshine are free. I take great comfort from the outdoors when I'm between jobs.

Best wishes on your next job.
