My very first fire!
The one in the rear. It was made only with the use of a fire-steel, charred cloth and some dried birch bark. Everything else came from the conifers in the
background.
The fire in the front I made at first and with the help of a magnesium starter and a sawdust/paraffine egg. It was used to keep me warm while trying to make the "real" fire (Because the day before I got very cold while trying to light a fire and the last thing I can afford is to get ill, because this means continous bouts of rheumatic arthritis for the next five to six month).
What I already learned from this one occassion:
-clean a bigger area from snow than you think you need
-prepare more wood than .................
-take bigger pieces of charcloth than............
-you stink to heaven afterwards :)
-its lots of fun :D :D

I never thought that I would spend my days walking the woods looking for birchs to peel and fungi to pluck, coming home totally knackered and stinking to heaven of smoke :D

There's no feeling like it, you have a perma-grin :D while your work collegues wonder what has happened to put the spring in your step ;)
