I will have to give the Italian hitch a shot as it sounds right up my street, thanks.
After getting home, I thought about the distance between trees and have come to conclusion that the distance was maybe to far apart. Obviously the greater distance under tension requires greater force on which to apply it, so I reckon only about an arms length from the end of the hammock to the nearest tree should be ok and along the Italian Hitch I should be at snapping point....
