Hennessy expedition and over six foot tall

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I'd say not really mate, I'm 5' 10" and thought mine was borderline.

Any reason why you like the Hennessy? Have a look at UKHammock or Warbonnet for some tasty alternatives

I have had a HH Explorer and now have a Warbonnet BB, the BB def feels smaller, a DD does not do a diagonal lie. I would try to get along to a meet or similar and see the options first hand.

hiya, ive got the explorer deluxe and theres bags of room. ok im only 5'10" but at the last meet a friend of mine tried it as hes looking for an upgrade, hes well over 6' and almost as broad! hes now looking to get one, and of course the diagonal flat lie is a bonus. :) modded here

Cheers everyone,

I like the quick setup with the Hennessy, hammock and tarp attached.

What kind of tarp do people use with the Warbonnet or DD Hammock? A friend has a DD Hammock with 3x3 tarp and it seems enormous!

cheers

I've got a HH Deep Jungle XL and there's bags of room (I'm about 1.98m & ~90kg).

However, don't worry about the set-up times, if you get into the hammock thing there are loads of ways to turn almost any hammock into a quick pitch.

Reasons I like the HH (or WB, Clarke, etc, etc) style is that you get the attached bug net which is easier than seperate bug nets IMHO - think of getting out in the dark and you'll understand.

Warbonnett make a number of tarps which are obviously matched to their hammocks, just as Hennessy also have a range of tarps suited to theirs. They include asym. diamond tarps which give the minimal adequate coverage and lightest weight, to much larger hexagonal shapes, in one (warbonnett) case with "doors" to close in the ends much like an old fashioned ridge tent. Cost vary with area and weight. Almost all have a ridgeline length of at least 11' (3.30 m) to adequately cover the hammock.

I am 6' and have the Hennesy Deluxe explorer, which is big enough for me. The Hennesy's are a bit weird to use, when you first get one & not everyone like the idea of being enclosed with the exit at the end, but it works for me. It depends how much over 6' you are; if more than an inch or two then I would look elsewhere. That said my new BBWB arrived yesterday & am off to try it out in a bit.

I'm 6' 1 1/2" (186cm thereabouts for the metric people.)

I've used one for 7 years in tropical rainforest. No problem fitting in or turning in my sleep.

Remember to lie across the velcro line - feet to the right, head to the left which is what the asym is about. You will get more leg room and lie flatter.

Don't clutter the hammock with packs pillows and clothes and you will be ok.
