This!

I have had serious medical conditions misdiagnosed by a GP - as have my wife and daughter. Even if you have to pay, do it. GPs are the lowest of the tree of medical professionals when it comes to diagnosis - go and see a proper consultant - they often catch what GPs have missed.

Thats utter bullocks Red. You and your family may have had poor treatment or what you perseveve as poor treatment but many hundreds of thousands get superb treatment from the GP/NHS route. Before you go off on one remember I'm talking for the actual experience of nursing folk and have shared the joy of successful treatment and helping families and loved ones cope/deal with the loss of people they loved.

If the OP is having trouble after a hike then I'd say pop into the nearest A&E unit, moan about the pain and at least they should take xrays which will be a good starting point for future treatment and possible referrals.

I'll stick by what I said Richard. GPs are the lowest of the diagnosticians - they are usually the first point of call, rarely specialised, do not have the advanced diagnostic aids that consultants or even registrars have at their disposal. If you are going to highlight and underline my post - highlight the next part of the sentence which says "when it comes to diagnosis". If you think a GP is at good at diagnosing within a field as a consultant, I am surprised.

Any advice that is not: "Go and seek professional help" is downright irresponsible. If professionals (doctors and physios) do not give you an answer (for a long time....keep trying) ask again here, as there are some non invasive pain relieving techniques that may or may not work but they do not have side effects. Having said that. Go to the doctor....if that fails, go to the doctor.

P.S. Go to the doctor.

I would go to a sports physiotherapist because they are accustomed to dealing with people who are very active whereas most GPs and ordinary physios deal mostly with relatively sedentary people who suffer from different problems. Sports people also have different expectations and far more incentive to do any prescribed exercises. My sports physio is fantastic at spotting and correcting gait and postural irregularities. Any decent gym will be able to tell you who practises locally and some gyms have a physio on the premises. Cost is not usually prohibitive.

At 16 you still have a fair bit of growing to do, and your diagnosis and treatment is likely to be a bit different to fully-grown adults. As the others have said - see a medical specialist - NOT an unqualified quack like an osteopath/chiropractor etc.

Have to agree with Red, I spent months being fobbed off, with brutal choking pain in my throat I lost nearly 3st and was starving to death I was told it was, everything from I had heartburn to I was imagining it, this was from nhs doctors in hospital, a@e various gp, s in the end my wife found what was wrong via online searches, we went private and after numerous scans of my brain it was confirmed, im now awaiting brain surgery if you can afford it private offers far more time with the top guys quicker time to see them, and most importantly time for them to listen to what your saying, shouldnt be like that but it is in my opinion.
