Hello! My name is Elizabeth

I’m a farmer born and bred so am very into the outdoors but haven’t done any bushcraft or even much camping as an adult. I want to get back into it and more so now as I have a baby and I want her to learn these things and to enjoy the outdoors. I’ve joined here just to learn some things and also in the future advice on camping etc with a little one!

Thanks, God bless

Hi and Welcome.
One of my daughters is a single mum and takes her (now) four year old camping with her. Sometimes Grampa is allowed to come too. We’ll be out at Bala later this month.
The trick is to DO something rather than just read what we do. Maybe just tie a knot or cook outside.

Above all have fun.

Hello!

That’s really great, when did she start camping with her? I thought about next year when my daughter will be 1(ish) but my husband isn’t so sure. He’s not negative about all this he just is very protective and also doesn’t want to disturb anyone else trying to enjoy the outdoors with a noisy baby!

Do something.. That really is what I need to do. I’m a big planner but terrible at putting it into action. And the only way my girl will grow up a bit hardy and confident in the wild is if I’m hardy and confident in the wild. All these generations of farmers that have led to mine the toughness is being wiped out by modern conveniences and the internet.

So practicing knots and cooking outside.. I can do that! If you think of any other things to get me started I’d love to know.

All the best

I first took mine camping at 6 months old.
I have a photo somewhere of him at camp, blissfully sitting in a washing up bowl of water playing with his bath toys.
It takes a bit of organisation , but its not impossible. I also took a travel cot, useful to keep little ones safe while you cook, and stop them waking and crawling out of the tent or messing with stuff while you are busy during their afternoon nap time. Can be used as a playpen.
A lightweight dark coloured blanket over the cot also cuts out light so you are not woken at the crack of dawn by littleun.
You live and learn!

This it’s the intro thread, really it’s just for saying hello. (My unrepentant bad!)
I think it may be worth starting a “Where do you start and what do you buy?” thread.

The very first thing to sort out is the kind of Bushcrafter that you want to be.

Your first “Do” :
Would you like to open your first new thread on the subject?

Welcome!

You could try the BushMoot? They’re family friendly and you could go for just a day, one night or the full week.

Great chance to meet people, learn new skills and there is a wealth of knowledge on all sorts of topics which people are so generous in sharing.
