Hi, I'm from Rugby and enjoy being outdoors. I have created a 3.5-mile nature trail in my local area. Two-thirds is an abandoned railway line and the rest is a bridleway. I have managed to corral a few other people into volunteering and we meet up every Wednesday morning and every other Friday morning. 2025 will be our 16th year of doing what we do. Why am I here? I want to create a 5-mile loop around my village (Dunchurch) using PRoW and wondered where I stood legally with cutting back vegetation so I googled it and this forum came up and looks interesting. I do have a blog of what we do but I'm not sure if I am allowed to post the www address? Looking forward to learning new stuff here and chatting with like-minded peeps :)

Hi, welcome to the forum :)

Theoretically the council are responsible for maintaining PRoW open and useable without harm/danger to the public i.e. you shouldn't have to push through bramble or thorn etc. However, many do not have the funds to do it so there are local volunteer groups that carry out work. That is legal (or at least accepted) providing you carry the necessary training and insurance for any tools you're using and the work is done to an accepted standard.

Anyway, happy to discuss this on a separate thread where you'll get more response or via PM.
