hi
im new to the site thought id like to introduce my self
my name is steve and i live and work in birmingham, hardly wild or covered in woodlands i know, i have been interested in bushcraft since i was a boy growing up in the city centre although i didn't know what bushcraft meant or exsisted back then. (so i didnt invent it? )
i always felt that i was weird compared to pals in the terms of entertainment, they would want parties holidays in hotels caravans ect ect me i was makeshift hides dens and tents growing up, and lived near the canals as i grew up.
many truant days were spent plodding along canal towpaths far and staying out as late as possible eventually all nite.
this lead to getting in trouble with the police and a cert to be heading to young offenders centres.
i was put in touch with a organisation that helped underprivaliged kids in the city, who sent us all of packing to various camping centres in wales ,cumbria. we also had a camp in alvechurch nr redditch where i thrived on it couldnt get enough while my city kid counter parts cried themselves to sleep for the first week or two. me i was in heaven.
i met one of the leaders who i now know was a bushcraft fanatic, he taught so much and took me to one side and helped me through a difficult time, even as i got older id spend time going back to the woodland camp trying alsorts of methods.many years even as a teenager i went back to the woods that id learnt to love and escape from everything the city stood for. im now 40 and am still trying to get my kids outdoors. i still try to get out as often as i can and am currently upgrading my kit. i also need to hone my old skills
pleased to say hi to you all hope to learn from the wealth of experiance on here a great
site i must say. looking forward to your advice and tips.
sorry to go on above but a short intro as to why im here and hopefully it may ring a bell with some of you, im pleased to be amongst so many like minded people, and not to feel weird or mad lol
