Hebrides with Caravan in September, St. Kilda?

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
That looks like a tropical beach, Deekin! But I guess water temperatures are not that inviting. I read a lot about these wonderful beaches, and I hope to see them in calm sunny weather and on a stormy day. Love when the waves crash on the beach and rocks (but not on driving days, and not too extreme...!)
We're on a Sunday on Lewis / Harris, thanks for the link! We were aware that almost anything is closed on Sundays, but that public toilets are closed too was new to me. Bookmarked the site, it has a lot of good information! Thanks!

All of the mainland ones in the link, I have spent time on and near wild camping. The weather isn't all that good all of the time though. :) My favourite coastal journey was the West coast of Ireland, possibly made more so by the welcoming friendliness of the people.

Just a quick update, we're back. Everything worked as planned, no one was harmed. Caravan was easy to tow even in strong winds, but we were glad to have just the car for exploring. Those single-track-roads are indeed adventurous!

I'll share some pictures soon, but first I have to sort through them (and there are a lot of pictures...)!

Thanks again for all your advice and suggestions!

Im glad you had a good time. Lewis is really windy.

Did you see the Folk museum at port of Ness? They do very nice high tea.

I was on Lewis/Harris Ten years back, enjoyed it very much.

I'm glad things went as planned :) and that you'd no problems with the caravan. Taking it and parking in a site, and using the car for jaunting around was really the best option I reckoned.
Drive single track roads for long enough and dual carriageways are scary things :) I know someone who vered off onto one of the police 'keep an eye on the traffic' rises to let someone past, after he'd been driving only on single track roads for three months :D Funny how quickly they become familiar, even at speed.
