Heat resistant tape

Hi chaps (and chapesses)

I'm after some heat resistant tape to wrap around the metal handles of my titan kettle (more so after burning myself last weekend). I know silicone tape is heat-resistant, but will it also mean that I can grip the handle without getting burned if I have just brought a pot of water to a boil.

I'd have a number of uses for such tape, if I knew that it would do that, and also stay stuck in place when exposed to flames from a woodburning stove.

So, will it do what I want, and where should I get some? Recommendations please.

I use Silicon charity bands as my oven glove of choice. I think there's a difference between heat resistant and fireproof. How about
stove rope?

Again dunno about fireproof though?

I work at a company that specialises in supplying tapes and adhesives. The problem isnt getting a plastic to take high heat - PTFE type materials are very temperature resistant. However I do not know of any tape adhesive that will take temperatures above about 250C and keep a decent bond strangth; well below flame temperatures. The highest temperature tape we do is a specialised masking tape for powder coating furnaces which goes to max 250C. Even epoxy adhesives tend to break down and lose their strength above 200C.
The only thing I can suggest is to use a whipping technique with heat resistant cordage or plastics, or make a wooden handle.

Heat shrink tube does the job... and is fitted to most current cook-sets on the wire handles.

As long as its not directly exposed to heat/flame, it holds up well and acts as a barrier for the hotter metal underneath. I have some here.

Stove rope is glass fibre. Burning your hands is probably less hassle than the irritation g/f would cause.

I use either a cloth or a silicon mat or a Trangia-type potlifter.

That's a shame, was going to buy some to experiment so you've saved me some cash at least.
