Cheers guys and thank you, its not hard at all to do, a little bit of drilling and sanding is all, I used a quarter inch threaded bar to hold it all together with a libral application of epoxy for good mesure.

The walking stick looks great. I am making one for my wife, can you tell me how long did you leave the hazel before you started work on it..
Thanks
Ian

Hi Mafro and Ian Brown, I cut the hazel in November, started work in February. once the epoxy had set I used a hand rasp and a drill sander to shape nearly down to the finished shape and size, then wet and dry sand paper from 250grit upto 1500.

Thank you all for your comments.

I bought it while having a day out at the Reindeer centre, Glenmore, Cairngorms national park. its from a juvenile so the blood vessels haven't fully closed, but very usable and cheap. walk into the reception/shop/display room and look to your right and down there is normally a pile of antler in the corner, just ask the girly behind the counter for a price.
