Hammock rigging webbing

  • Hey Guest, Early bird pricing on the Summer Moot (29th July - 10th August) available until April 6th, we'd love you to come. PLEASE CLICK HERE to early bird price and get more information.
Hi all, if you check the Kit Chatter area you'll see a thread on there about the method of rigging my GB hammock.

(Sorry I don't know how to post a link directly to that thread.)

In case anyone's interested, I could look into sourcing the webbing to make up such a rig (although I'll let you guys & girls put it together yourselves).

I'll need to get an idea of numbers before I can get a price, but I'm fairly confident it should come in around the £10 - £15 mark delivered to you which for 20 metres of 25mm load-bearing webbing plus 4 metres of the tubular sleeving (each to be halved to create the rig) is still cheaper than most shops sell it for. I could also do an option including 2 climbing grade screwgate karabiners if required.

Let me know if you're interested by adding your names to a list in the normal fashion.

(No commitment at this point, whilst I determine whether its a goer.)

If you're only going to be using your carbiners for hammocking, then you can reduce the cost significantly by not using screwgates; even if some prankster was to sneak up on you at night and open the gate of a normal snaplink carabiner it would still easily hold your weight, even if you're stage name is Giant Haystacks. However, if you plan to use your carabiners for belays or river crossings then screw gates are the way to go.

If in doubt, go for the lightest full strength climbing snaplink carabiner that you can.

I've no connection etc, but Needlesport in Keswick often have good deals on carabiners.

Cheers, Michael.

I don't disagree about the potential for using snap-gate karabiners, it's just my preference to use screw-gates.

I figured most people with a hammock suitable for this sort of rig would most likely already have the 'biners.

I'll get prices for either snap-gate or screw-gate 'biners, however, I don't want to start getting too complex on the number of variations I'm offering.

The list so far by my reckoning (please correct your requirements if I've misinterpreted):

Minor edit to clarify it is webbing + sleeve (but not krabs) for me (if price ok)
