Grass Snake

I stumbled across this dead grass snake whilst out and about. It's always a shame to see, but I took the opportunity to take a few close up pictures for reference.

There is some damage behind the head which may give an idea as to how it died.

Not sure, there appears to be a puncture mark behind the head. Common dog walking spot, so maybe a small terrier.

I was gutted to find a large dead one on our road, it's such a quiet back road I doubt someone didn't see it before running over it.

Yours looks very fresh, I half wonder whether you could eat it?

You know, the thought had crossed my mind. I was going to bring it back to draw and see if I could save the skeleton, but decided against it in the moment. Wish I had now, not often the opportunity comes up.

doesn't look dead long it's eyes are clear ..
I see a live one two weeks ago 2 and a half foot long crossed my path through leaf litter
