I am the proud new owner of a Gransfors mini hatchet. My son got me it and gave it to me yesterday for my birthday present (which was on the 21st October) bless him.
Isn't it great when your kids grow up, get a job and earn money :D.....................roll on Chrimbo
I've read some negative things about the mini hatchet, but I love it. Of course I won't be splitting large rounds with it but for blanking out spoons, splitting kindling, making feather sticks, cutting bark or even skinning animals and fish prep it' looks ideal to me, and besides my son gave me it, which makes it even more treasured and special than if I'd bought it myself,................. so there. :p :headbang:

One of my favorites. Rarely go hiking in the woods without it. Tucks away nicely. Great carving tool as well. Congrats! Your son is super!

Thanks guys, I am absolutely bursting to get out and try it out. :D

If you're recommending it Hoodoo, then that's good enough for me my friend. A very capable chap. I know.
Yes I'm dead proud of him (my son). He has his moments as they all do at 18 years old, but he's a good lad.

It's a good tool :approve:

We call the things sons 1 and 2 pass our way 'cos they're four months out of date, like mobile phones and laptops that are waaay out of our budget, "Hand me Ups " :D

cheers,
Toddy........on a hand me up, wireless keyboard and a something rather superb :dunno: monitor  Isn't it a happy when you like the people your children have become :) ?

That is a surprise. I've handled more than a few GBs, as you might expect, and I've yet to see one you couldn't shave with.
Especially odd as Lennart makes all the Minis.

I know, I was surprised too. It wasn't completely blunt but it certainly wasn't particularly sharp either. Anyway not at all a problem, 10 minutes with the axe sharpener soon put that right. It's very sharp now :)
I remember when I got my GB small forest axe back in 2003, it was razor sharp when I got it. Anyway no problem whatsoever, as I said it's very sharp now. I just sliced some post it notes to test it and straight through, with a beautiful crisp cut :)
