Hi All, I used to be under the impression that gore tex and other MVP fabrics were TOTALLY waterproof, due to my understanding of the the way they work: A pourous membrane that has holes just big enough to let molecules of vapour though, but too small to let through molecules of liquid.
However, recently I have had a couple of MVP products allow a slight amount of moisture to seep through, a jacket that got snow all over the back which seemed to get through after I'd been wearing my backpack for half an hour or so, and a bivi bag that had some moisture soak through after about 5 hours in the snow.
I've seen here and there that MVP materials need to be treated periodically with some kind of waterproofing agent.
It's hard to know what you're getting as so many people label MVP as "Gore tex" , is there a difference in quality and/or technological concept between Gore Tex and other MVP materials and is my knowledge of the way they work correct or flawed ?
Can anyone enlighten me ?
