Going to the USA for 10 days over Xmas. Leaving on 19/12/15.

2 Questions.

First one, can I pack a multi tool into my suit case? (Not hand luggage)

Second question. Anything I should look for out there to bring back? I'm after an all rounder 4 season sleeping bag, not wanting to part with much more than £100 on one, but anything else I should invest in while over there??

Any ideas are more than welcome.

I would think almost everything you buy in the US will be less expensive than in the UK. We had another thread where I listed a number of outdoor equipment retailers you can visit in the US. It is probably better to ask people from the UK what they would purchase because I can't think of things you can find in the US that you can't also get in the UK.

Just about everything, I would gladly pay the extra luggage and take an extra empty suitcase to fill lol, sleeping bag, hammock down underquilt, tarp, titanium, everything is cheaper

Personally i'd be looking at warbonnet, hammock gear, jacks R better, and ULA

If you're into ultralight gear the US is the place. Huge choice and much lower prices than over here. I'd be on the lookout for Cuben fibre stuff.

A Wiggys sleeping bag might be worth looking into.

Kit like Underarmour is cheap there too, along with boots like Matterhorn and Danner.

Yeah, no problems at the US end of the trip, but I think he was asking if he can carry it in his checked baggage when starting the trip. That would depend on what the UK allows.

Yes you can carry a multitool in your checked in baggage. Do it every time I travel over, never had an issue. Also carried lockers and fixed blades again with no issues, no weapons though they may still get you in trouble.

Depending where you are going do a googlemap search on outdoors stores near your location in the US. You get a lot more bargains from the smaller stores than the big chains but the big chains are still cheap. I got a MSR Whisperlite Int stove for $45 plus tax from a smaller store, don't buy anything flammable though, that's a no no for hold luggage. Sign up for an REI card if they are doing a discount at the time you're buying the stuff.
