Hello All,

I'm going to set-up camp for the very first time in my very own woodland !!

I got a chance to buy into a woodland scheme, which enables me to enjoy the whole woodland as if it was all mine.

I've been there many times but never stayed over...so this will be a real adventure for me...I've got a friend who is fairly handy to have around with his bushcraft skills, so should be a great day.

Has anyone one else taken the plung with their own land ?

PS....It's goning to be a bit chilly !!

Well to be honest.....I had been trying to buy my own woodland for years. It was just too difficult and way too expensive.

The other main reason was, I just didn't like to camp or wonder in places where I didn't have permission.

Anyway....about six months ago I took the plung. I found an organisation that made owning land cheap straight forward.

Without boring you all, I paid for secition of freehold woodland which gives me the right to wonder the whole woodland. It makes me a land-owner !!! LOL Well sort of I guess.

Anyway, the woodland I have brought a part of is beautiful and is fairly large. I have seen all manner of wildlife including deer.

Anyway....back to the packing !

I will update you all later.

Well done! I brought 6 acres of woodland 2 years ago. Built a tipi and a shelter for dry wood. We camp over there as a family alot hopefully camping there this weekend.

Excellent!

I bought some woodland a few years back with some money that I inherited. Was probably the best thing I've ever done. I don't get down there much at the moment, but if you want to have a virtual look, follow the link in my sig.

Best of luck with it, and I'm sure you'll both be very happy ;)

never heard of it.... anyone got links to similar schemes? or even the proper name for them so i can google it?

I got really excited when I found something like this - it was like £60 for a share in the woodland, giving rights as if you were the owner.. except camping wasn't allowed

Wonder what this scheme is?

The nearest on sale near me is £25,000 for 2 acres with 140m of riverbank.
You can fish for anything apart from salmon and sea trout, the rights for which are with an angling club.:(

I looked at one of those souvenir plots in Scotland, you can get 1000 sq/ft for about £500.... big enough to stick your teepee on :)

Oh....and you get to call your self Laird or lady(scottish lord/lady)

The one i looked at came with lifetime fishing rights on a mile stretch of river with plenty of trout and salmon. if you have a large enough plot, you are allowed to camp.

take a look https://www.lochaberhighlandestates.com/

The one i saw was on ebay...... i am sooooo tempted, would defo go for the large plot so i can camp:)

WOW !

What an experience.

I'm cold and a little damp but I had an amazing day/night.

We had a nice fire going and Jason managed to set-up a trap and catch a little something for a stew....It was exactly what I had wanted to experience.

I'm ready for the next time !

To be honest, I dont actually own all of the woodland but managed to sumble across an organisation that pioneered a method of owning a fairly sizeable section of woodland, for the price of a small second-hand car.

I get to own freehold section, at the land registry and rights to use the woodland as if it was all mine for a fraction of the price !!

When I was looking for something along these lines previously...I would have needed £50k !

Anyway.......camp, fire, stew, the darkness, some good stories and a night-cap made it a trip to remember.......life is just too busy....not to enjoy the wildlife.

There are several companies that specialise in selling you a bit of a wood for less than the cost of the whole wood:

Woods4Sale

ancientwoodland.com

There is someone selling a half and care in Scotland on the Internet for about £4,950.

You can camp and have fires on these because they are your own.

There are two companies that sell a share for about £50 - £100....but you don't really own any of the wood at the land registery....so you can't light fires, etc...

www.ancientwoodland.com - was the place I got "my very own place"

Nice People and fairly easy to do....I was under the impression that it was going to be as difficult and as stressfull as buying a house ! but it was fairly smooth and they even appointed a solicitor who was experienced in woodland for me.

Anyway, I planning my next trip....not for a few weeks but looking forward to it already.
