Gloves any ideas please?

Hi, I was out walking on wednesday in very wet muddy conditions. As some hills were so steep we ended up on hands and knees to climb . My wool/nylon gloves got soaked and my hands ended up cold. Anyone have any ideas of a pair of gloves that preform well in wet muddy conditions??

the army issue ones are v ery good IMO, leather outer with gortex to keep your hands dry...

I've got some neoprene winter sailing gloves that are good. Even when you're hands are wet they stay warm. There's lots of different manufacturers. Mine have quite thin "leather" (it's not leather, but some man-made fibre that looks like leather) fingers which means I can handle quite fiddly things without having to take the gloves off.

And if the gloves don't dry overnight I just pour some warm water into them before I put them on the next morning.

+1 for the Soldier 95 British Army gloves.

A soft but durable leather outer with a GorTex and Thinsulate lining. I've worn them hill walking, absailing and on the motorbike in very cold and wet conditions. They've always stood up well and been warm and comfortable. You can usually find them on eBay for less than £15.

I'm not a great one for wearing gloves but I post this because I am so impressed with a pair that I did buy. From the labels...
Ski-Dri2..Gold Leaf winter touch. Waterproof and breathable, thinsulate 40 gram insulation.

Warning.. They're yellow leather palms and inner fingers, black cordura type fabric on the backs. Obviously got a membrane inside as 100% leak free and really warm and..bonus they protected my hands dragging maneating brambles out of my wood. Garden Centre £25..

A friend who does a lot of caving has said he wears ordinary household rubber gloves over his wool ones.

I now have a vision of all these roughty-toughty cavers wearing pink marigolds:yelrotflm

Hestra gloves arn't cheap but they do take a fair amount of abuse, get a set of spare liners and your laughing.

Great thread, was going to ask this myself. I've looked up all suggestions and I think I'll go with the soldier 95 issue gloves. I've been searching online for them and I noticed many places selling them place the word "style" in the description and any seasoned army suprlus shopper knows "style" basically means not genuine!

Anyone know a good reliable place to buy the genuine article from?

Ive got some sealskinz mittens that are waterproof and very toasty, I know mittens arent everyones cup of tea but they do gloves too and they seem very good and grippy too. The mittens are great and the elastic through coat sleeves is optional now we're grown ups!

I was going to mention sealskinz gloves too but the army ones look like a complete bargain at that price.

I have a pair of Sealskin MTB gloves that I'm really impressed with. I don't really use them for biking but love them for hill walking. They are nice and toasty but quite close fitting and not too bulky so you don't lose all dexterity. I can even manage to use a map and compass wearing them. They are a step up from those original "wooly" glove type sealskin gloves too.
